German GEW 71/84 Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #7727, 11mm Mauser cal., 31.5'' barrel, bright finish, hardwood stock, dovetailed inverted-''V'' front sight, and adjustable folding leaf rear sight with ''V'' notches, graduated to 1600 meters. Left side of the receiver is marked ''I.G.Mod.71/84'', and the right side with ''1887'' production date. Top of the barrel shank is marked ''(Crown)SPANDAU'' and the left side with a ''(Crown)F.W.''. There are crowned inspection stamps on the right side of the receiver and barrel; faint acceptance stamps on the right and underside of the buttstock. Matching number on the barrel; other numbers do not match. Metal surfaces rate fair and have been cleaned, removing the finish, now showing areas of light pitting to the receiver, barrel, and buttplate. Stock has had a coat of brown varnish applied, now in very good condition, with a few small chips and an area of impressions to the underside of the forend. Action is a little stiff but functions correctly. Bore rates fair with areas of pitting and fair to good rifling. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
