Lot 520 Modified CRB Marked Ross M-10 Straight Pull Rifle

Modified CRB Marked Ross M-10 Straight Pull Rifle, #1001, .303 British cal., 24.5'' barrel, blued finish, walnut stock and handguard, blade front sight with attached hood, and adjustable folding leaf rear sight with ''U''-notch, graduated to 1200 yards. Includes a reproduction British leather sling. Rifle has been modified by shortening the barrel, forend, and removing the associated military hardware. Top of the receiver ring is marked ''ROSS RIFLE CO./CANADA/M-10/PATENTED'', ''CRB'', along with proof and inspection stamps. Birmingham export marks stamped on left side of the barrel shank. There are no markings on the stock. There are differing opinions on what the ''CRB'' stamp on the receiver stands for. The two most popular theories are that they were issued to the Royal Marines Depot in Crombie, England or ''Canadian Reserve Battalion''. Rifle is in very good overall condition as modified, retaining approx. 70%-75% thinning and toning blue. Wood with scattered mostly moderate dents and scratches. There is a larger impression on right side of the forend. Action operates smoothly. Bore is dark with very mild frosting in the grooves, rifling is good. Est.: $500-$700. (C&R)
