Portuguese Contract Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #G8228, 8x57mm cal., 23.6'' barrel, blued finish, laminated stock and handguard with cupped buttplate, inverted-''V'' front sight, and adjustable tangent rear sight. Includes cleaning rod and unmarked brown leather sling. Sling is in good condition, showing age and wear, with some cracking to the leather. Rifle is marked on top of the receiver ring with Portuguese crest over ''1941''. Left side receiver rail is marked ''MAUSERWERKE A.G. OBERNDORF AN.'' There are Nazi eagle firing proofs on left side of the barrel and receiver; three ''(eagle)655'' stamps on right side of the receiver; two ''WaA655'' Waffenamts on right side of the barrel. There are no visible markings on the stock. German code ''gqm'' stamped on the buttplate. There are three large Arabic numbers painted on left side of the buttstock. Matching number on the barrel. Other numbered parts do not match. No visible import marks. Condition overall is good, retaining approx. 60% thinning and toning blue. Factory markings are clear. Wood is fair with spliced repairs to the buttstock comb, putty repair to left side of the forend, and has an overall rough appearance. Action operates smoothly but the safety lever is stuck in the ''fire'' position, will not turn over, and needs to be repaired. Bore rates good overall; grooves are dark, rifling is clearly defined.
