Portuguese M1886 Kropatschek Bolt Action Rifle, #D242, 8x56Rmm cal., 26'' barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock, dovetailed inverted-''V'' front sight, and adjustable folding leaf rear sight with ''V''- notch, graduated to 1500 meters. Includes steel cleaning rod and black leather sling; in fair condition. Left side of the receiver is marked ''OEWFG.STEYR/1886/(Crown)L.I/M.1886''. There is a ''(crown)'' on the barrel shank and faint cartouches on both sides of the buttstock. Matching visible numbers. Condition overall is very good, metal has been varnished, now generally dark and flaking. Bluing shows wear and toning along the barrel, to the edges of the receiver, and trigger guard. Wood has been sanded and stained, now in very good condition, with gouges to the right side forward of the wrist. Toe of the buttstock has separated and has been secured with two pins. Bolt operates smoothly but the magazine cutoff lever is frozen in single shot mode. Bore rates very good with defined rifling.Est.: $300-$500. (Antique)
