Antique Italian M1870/87/15 Vetterli Bolt Action Rifle, #M1358, 6.5x52mm cal., 24'' barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock, inverted-''V'' front sight, adjustable leaf rear sight with ''V''-notch, graduated to 2000 meters, with steel cleaning rod. Barrel shank is marked ''TORRE ANNUNZIATA'' and ''1891''. Left side of the buttstock is stamped with the conversion cartouche reading ''OFFICINA COSTRUZIONE OARTIGLIERIA /ROMA/1917''. Matching number located on right side of the buttstock. Rifle was modified by cutting back the stock forend and shortening the barrel. Condition overall is fair, much of the bluing is worn off, and most parts show patina with areas of pitting to the barrel. Varnish has been applied to the metal, now showing flaking and wear. Wood with numerous bruises and scratches. Both sides of the buttstock are cracked at the toe, in line with the lower buttplate screw. Action functions well. Bore is good with clear rifling.
