Modified Antique Swiss Model 1869/71 Vetterli Bolt Action Rifle, #30228, .41 Swiss Rimfire cal., barrel has been shortened to 18.25'', with blued finish, straight grip hardwood stock, checkered forend, and inverted-''V'' front sight with protectors. Rear sight has been removed. Includes a modified steel cleaning rod and a sling ring has been welded onto the trigger guard tang. Left side of the receiver is marked ''W.V.STEIGER/THUN'' and there is a Swiss cross stamped into the right side buttstock. Matching numbers on the barrel and receiver, other numbered parts do not match. Rifle was modified by cutting back the forend, shortening the barrel, and attaching a newly fabricated forend cap. Condition overall is fair as modified. Barrel retains much of its toning blue finish, showing wear and polishing where the rear sight dovetail was filled in. Receiver with several small spots of darkening and light pitting. There are dents visible on left side of the bolt cover. Wood with overall dents, scratches, and darkening. The old band spring and rear sling swivel recesses have been filled in. There is a backwards ''S'' carved into left side of the forend. Action functions well. Bore is bright with good rifling.
