Lot 480 German/Austrian Stalking Rifle
German/Austrian Stalking Rifle, #1164, 8.15x46mm cal., 26'' octagon blued barrel, color case hardened receiver, adjustable double set-triggers, blade with gold bead front sight and semi-buckhorn style rear sight. One-piece checkered hardwood stock with cheekpiece, un-checkered palm-swell forend, rear sling stud, and polished nickel buttplate. Underside of barrel with ''BUG'' proofs, also stamped ''172,28/9.065/1164''. Receiver is stamped with ''(Crown) B'' and ''(Crown)U''. Receiver, upper tang, and trigger guard have been lightly engraved with remnants of gold fill. Mfg'd circa 1893-1939. Overall condition of this rifle is fine, retaining approx. 95%-96% of its re-blued finish, and approx. 80% of the muted case colors; colors on the trigger guard have mostly toned to a gray/brown patina. Metal surfaces with scattered light handling marks. Stock has been refinished and shows scattered shallow surface dents and scratches; checkering is clean. Buttplate sits slightly proud of the stock at the toe and there is scattered oil staining at the butt. Metal to wood fit is very good. Action functions well. Bore rates very good overall with well-defined rifling. Est.: $500-$700 (C&R/PPT)
