Composite U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock Single Shot Pistol, #NVSN, .54 cal., 8.5'' barrel with captive steel swivel ramrod, smooth walnut stock, brass flash pan, brass blade front sight, with fixed ''U''-notched groove at the rear. Flat lockplate is marked ''A. WATERS / MILBURY, MS. / 1838'', with martial ''U.S.'' on top of the barrel, ''JH'' and ''P'' inspection marks at the rear of the barrel. There is a faint impression of a cartouche in an oval at the left rear of the stock. Mfg'd 1838. Pistol is in good overall condition, retaining considerable reblued finish on the barrel, with pin prick pitting and surface erosion along the surface. Lockplate and hammer are in the white with light scattered spots of corrosion. Trigger guard and barrel band have drifted to brown patina with light surface rust and erosion. Stock may be a replacement and has cracks on both sides behind the tang that end at the backstrap. Some of the screws are replacements. There is a large chip missing next to the sideplate at the flash pan. Action functions and holds at full cock. Bore is dark. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
