Lot 407 Martially Marked Remington Rolling Block Rifle

Martially Marked Remington Rolling Block Rifle, #NVSN, .50-70 cal., 36'' round barrel, blued and case hardened finish, straight grip walnut stock and forend with three barrel bands, fixed blade front sight, and adjustable folding rear sight. Mfg'd circa early-1870's. Condition is good, displaying an un-cleaned gray/brown patina, with hints of blue and case colors; with scattered spots of a darker rust patina. Buttstock shows a crisp inspector's cartouche on the front left wrist area and ''69'' stamped at the back of the buttstock's left side. There is also what appears to be a small ''B.P.D.'' stamped on the underside of the buttstock behind the trigger guard tang. Forend has a ''D'' stamped on the back right side, near the front of the receiver. There is a clear ''4 9/S/Co H'' on the top of the buttplate. There also are ''S'' proofs on the left side rear receiver, left side barrel at breech, and all three barrel bands. Wood is good with expected dents and scratches, particularly on the forend. Action is strong. Bore is mostly bright with some intermittent light erosion and well-defined rifling. Includes on old, unmarked brown leather military sling; in fair condition. Est.: $700-$900.
