Modified Antique Swiss Model 1869/71 Vetterli Bolt Action Rifle, #97583, .41 Swiss Rimfire cal., barrel has been shortened to 18.25'', with blued finish, straight grip hardwood stock and checkered forend, inverted-''V'' front sight with protectors, and replacement ''V''-notched rear sight. Includes a modified steel cleaning rod and a sling ring has been welded onto the trigger guard tang. Left side of the is receiver marked ''SOC.IND.SUISSE/SYST.VETTERLIN.'' and there are Swiss crosses stamped on the rear receiver bridge and right side of the buttstock. Bolt is numbered but does not match. Rifle was modified by cutting back the forend, shortening the barrel, and attaching a newly fabricated forend cap. Condition overall is fair as modified. Metal retains little finish, with general patina, scratches, and some areas of light pitting. Wood with overall dents, scratches, and some areas of darkening. The old band spring and rear sling swivel recesses have been filled in. There are flat spots visible on the muzzle face and end of the nose cap. Action functions well. Rifling is well-defined but there is darkening and scattered erosion, particularly in the grooves. Missing the cartridge carrier, floorplate, and associated internal components. Est.: $200-$400.
