Lot 347 Remington Model 1889 Side-by-Side Double-Barrel Hammer Shotgun Grade 1

Remington Model 1889 Side-by-Side Double-Barrel Hammer Shotgun Grade 1, #232715 , 12 ga., 28'' blued steel barrels are choked Mod/IM, case hardened frame, bead front sight. Marked ''Remington Arms Co. Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A.'' on matted top rib; hammers have the nearly-circular M-1889 profiles. Two-piece varnished walnut stocks, forend with a tip insert, pistol-grip buttstock checkered at wrist and checkered hard rubber buttplate with entwined Remington Arms initials logo. Mfg'd circa 1902. Condition is fine. Barrels retain approx. 80%-85% original finish which has dulled with areas beginning to turn a bluish-brown patina with scattered light pitting. The mouth of the left barrel has a small dent at the top. Case color is mostly faded with a small amount still visible in the protected areas. Stocks are sound, showing light marks and moderately worn checkering to buttstock, which has an added coat of varnish; buttplate has an approx .5'' crack extending from the left side to the lower buttplate screw. Breech lock actions work well, hammer springs are strong and both firing pins move freely. Bores show light fouling but should clean to bright. Est.: $400-$550. (C&R)
