Lot 290 WWI Imperial German 1916 Dated Navy Luger with Holster
WWI Imperial German 1916 Dated Navy Luger with Holster, #985, 9mm cal., 6'' barrel, rust blue finish, straw colored small parts, checkered walnut grips, dovetailed inverted-''V'' front, and two-position adjustable rear sight with ''V''-notch, and stock lug. Includes one mismatched aluminum based Haenel Schmeisser magazine. Also included is a period modified, unmarked black leather holster. The exterior cleaning rod holder and interior compartment for the takedown tool have both been removed. The original belt loop has also been replaced, extra hole added to the front flat for the closing stud, and the lifting strap removed. Holster has no visible maker's marks but the inside of the flap has what appears to be a German name written in pencil. The pistols toggle is marked ''DWM'' with a ''1916'' chamber date. Imperial Navy proof mark and two ''(crown)M'' acceptance marks are visible on the left side of the receiver. Left side of barrel with Imperial Navy ''(crown)'' proof mark, bottom with ''(crown)M''; ''1916'' on left side of the front sight base and left edge of the frame, above the takedown lever. All visible numbers matching (excluding the magazine); grips and firing pin are not numbered. Pistol is in fine overall condition, retaining approx. 92%-94% original blue with light wear at the muzzle, sideplate, and stock lug accounting for most the finish loss. There is mild frosting present on the front and backstrap. Factory lettering and proof marks are clear. Straw colored parts are almost completely silver colored. Grips display normal signs of age and light handling wear; checkering detail is primarily crisp. Action and hold open function properly. Bore with scattered light erosion and is otherwise bright; rifling is very good. Magazine shows typical light rub wear and small marks from use. Holster is in fair condition as modified. The flap needs to be repaired and is holding on by only a few threads. Otherwise, leather remains supple and has general moderate scuffs, scratches, and some age cracking. Est: $2,500-$3,500.
