Remington-Keene Bolt Action Rifle, #NVSN, .45-70 cal., 29.25'' barrel, blued finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, and ''V''-notch rear sight. Magazine holds nine cartridges. The USN purchased 250 of these in 1880 but this rifle is not serial numbered or navy inspector marked. Bolt is marked ''E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION N.Y. /PAT. FEBY 24. MCH. 17. 1874 JAN. 18/SEPT. 26. 1876MCH. 20. JULY 31. 1877'' on top. Receiver is marked .45/70 on the left side. Rifle is in very good overall condition. Majority of the metal finish has turned to gray. Stock is unmarked and in very good condition, with some scattered dents. Cleaning rod is full length and mounted on the left side of the stock. Action works properly. Six-groove barrel has a good bore, with good rifling, but is lightly frosted. Est.: $3,000-$4,000. (Antique)
