^Lot 191 Engraved Darne Model R11 Sliding Breech Side-by-Side Shotgun

Engraved Darne Model R11 Sliding Breech Side-by-Side Shotgun, #A589, 12 ga., 27'' barrels with concave solid rib, chambers are stamped ''65'' for 2-1/2'' but measure a little over 2-3/4'', bores gauge to Cyl/Full, with brass bead front sight. Barrels are blued; coin finished trigger guard and sliding breech with extensive floral scroll and border engraving. Shotgun also features double triggers, rotating safety lever, extractors, and all matching serial numbers. Checkered straight grip walnut stock with grooved black plastic Darne buttplate. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8'' x 1-7/8'' x 2-3/8''. Top of the lever is marked ''Darne''. Includes a slip on leather handguard. Condition is good, retaining approx. 90% toning blue, showing spots of mild frosting, thinning and patina. There are intermittent spots of light rust visible in the protected areas where the barrel rib meets the barrel. Bright metal surfaces with moderate brown patina at rear of the breech and trigger guard; engraving is crisp. Wood was sanded and refinished, with a chip missing and small crack from behind the upper tang, fine crack and long impression to left side of the wrist. Checkering shows moderate wear. Action is a little sticky at times but functions properly and locks up tight. Bores are smoky and pitted. Est.: $1,200-$1,600. (C&R/PPT)
