Lot 160 Scarce Remington Model 720A Bolt Action Rifle
Scarce Remington Model 720A Bolt Action Rifle, #41848, .30-06 cal., 22'' barrel, blue finish; checkered walnut one-piece pistol grip stock with sling swivels, ending with a checkered steel Remington buttplate, providing a 13.5'' LOP. Sights include banded brass tipped blade front and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Bolt handle is in the white. There is a single vacant drilled and tapped hole in the rear bridge; right side of the receiver is drilled and tapped for aperture sight, with plug screws. There are numerous proofs on right side of the barrel at the breech and a crisp ''FJA'' cartouche on left side of the butt, with a ''(crossed cannons)'' ordnance mark. Mfg'd 1943. Rifle is in excellent overall condition, retaining approx. 99% factory blue, showing light wear on the bolt release and minor marks. Stock displays only minor storage marks, with sharp checkering detail. Action functions smoothly. Bore is bright with excellent rifling. Remington's Model 720, based on the Enfield action, was originally intended to compete with Winchester's Model 70. The war effort took precedence and only approx. 2,500 were mfg., making this a scarce rifle, particularly in this high condition. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R/PPT)
