Lot 111 Remington Model 1871 Rolling Block Pistol

Remington Model 1871 Rolling Block Pistol, #291, .32 RF cal., 20.75'' half-round/half-octagon barrel, blued with nickel frame, smooth one-piece walnut grip, folding Beach type combination front sight, and semi-buckhorn rear sight with elevator. The bottom of the grip has been modified and a metal plate with threaded stud has been added, perhaps for a shoulder stock attachment and conversion into a ''buggy'' type rifle or for hunting and target shooting. Barrel has no address or serial number. Left side of the frame is marked in two-lines with makers information and ''April 17th 1866'' last patent date. Grip is numbered but does not match. This unique pistol is in very good condition. Barrel displays a combination of toning blue finish mixed with general brown patina and spots of moderate rust patina. Approx. 70% thinning and flaking nickel finish remains. Factory markings are clear. Grips with several scattered old dents and scratches from use. The spring tension on the added plate has caused some separation at the bottom of the grip and one of the screws is stripped. Action is crisp and functions smoothly. Bore is good and remains bright with intermittent light erosion and defined rifling. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)(Michael Strietbeck Collection)
