Scarce Remington First Variation Double Derringer with Upside Down Elliot's Patent Date, #1754, .41 RF cal., 3'' barrel group with extractor, gray patina, smooth rosewood two-piece grips, blade front sight, and milled groove in the rear of the top strap. Matching serial numbers on underside of the barrel and left side of the frame, under the grip. Barrel address is located on the sides in the center rib. Left side is marked REMINGTONS ILION N.'' Right side is marked with upside down ''ELLIOT'S PATENT DEC. 12, 1865''. This variant is discussed on pages 102-103 of ''Dr. William H. Elliot's Remington Double Derringer'' by Drummond, Johnson, Williams, & Barnard. The markings on the left side of this barrel are like those seen on page 103, figure 6-8, and the serial numbers are off by only 5-digits. The overall condition is good with a gray patina to the metal surfaces, with scattered pinprick pitting, and spots of mild darkening. Factory markings remain clear. Grips are fine, with a few small handling marks. Action functions well. Bore is fair, with scattered spots of erosion, and visible rifling. Hard to find in any condition. Est.: $1,200-$1,500.
