Lot 86 Early production Type I Remington-Elliot Double Derringer

Early production Type I Remington-Elliot Double Derringer, #1180, .41 RF short cal., 3'' barrels, nickel finish, no extractor, two-piece rosewood grips, integral blade front sight, and fixed notched rear sight. Left side of the barrel is marked "ELLIOTS. PATENT DEC 12, 1865". Right side "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION, N.Y.". Matching number on left side of the grip frame and underside of the barrel. Mfg'd circa 1866, with less than 2,000 Type I produced without the extractor. Overall condition is good, retaining approx. 25% nickel finish. Factory markings are clear. Grips are very good, with light handling marks; right panel was cracked and neatly repaired. Action is crisp. Bore and rifling are good with scattered spots of moderate erosion. Est.: $800-$1,200.
