Antique Marlin-Ballard Falling Block Single Shot Rifle with Tang Sight, #21566, re-chambered to .38-55 cal., (per consignor) 34'' octagon barrel, blued finish, case hardened falling block and hammer, double set-triggers. Straight grip buttstock and forend are finely grained walnut. Replacement hooded front sight with spirit lever and adjustable buckhorn rear sight with elevator. Includes an unmarked long range tang sight. Left side of the frame with Marlin-Ballard maker/patent information. Mfg'd circa 1870's-1880's. Overall condition of this rifle is very good, displaying thinning and toning blue finish mixed with dark patina. Receiver with a heavy, dark patina, showing traces of silvered case colors. Wood is very good, showing scattered moderate dents and scratches. Forend attaching screw looks like a replacement, and perimeter of the hole in the forend is rough. Markings are visible. Action is crisp. Double-set triggers are functioning. Bore is bright with excellent rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
