Remington Transitional New Model Army Single Action Percussion Revolver, #12612, .44 cal., 8'' octagon barrel, blued finish with brass trigger guard, two-piece smooth walnut grips, cone front sight, and small ''V''-notched rear sight. Barrel is marked in two-lines ''PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION NEW YORK, U.S.A.'' No ''New Model'' markings and this revolver still features some of the earlier features found on the Model 1861 revolver. There are ''S'' inspection marks on both sides of the frame, right side of the barrel, trigger guard, and cylinder round. Additionally, left side of the barrel, frame, and loading lever with ''A'' inspection mark. Left grip panel with inspector's cartouche. Matching numbers on left side of the grip frame and underside of the barrel. Back of the cylinder is marked ''1955'', ''S'', and ''B''. There are illegible markings on the back of each grip, written in pencil. It appears to someone's name. Condition is very good overall, retaining approx. 65%-70% thinning and toning blue; some of the metal has a smooth, lightly cleaned appearance. Factory markings and inspection marks on the metal are mostly legible, with a few spots of the barrel address being worn and illegible. Grips show moderate age and handling wear; cartouche is clearly present but worn and partially legible. Action is crisp and cycles smoothly. Bore is fine, mostly bright, with clearly defined rifling. Includes a nice customized later production hardwood compartmentalized case, holding the revolver, shell-designed brass powder flask, unmarked iron two-cavity bullet mold (.44 caliber), two iron oilers, an ELEY cap tin plus a bag full of lead bullets, misc. small parts, and cleaning tools. All are in good to very good condition. Exterior of the case with scratches to the lid. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)(Michael Strietbeck Collection)
