Scarce and Desirable Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Trapper Saddle Ring Carbine, #197124, .44-40 W.C.F. cal., 15'' round barrel, blued finish, straight grip walnut stock and forend, pinned blade front sight, and folding carbine ladder rear sight. Mfg'd 1902. Overall condition good, displaying 20%-25% thinning and toning factory blue, mainly in the protected areas along the barrel and magazine tube; on the hammer and lever. Balance of the metal is gray mixed with cloudy brown patina, showing typical mark associated with age and use; right side of the receiver with intermittent spots of mild pitting. Wood is good, showing age and wear that is consistent with the rest of the rifle, including mostly small to medium sized mars associated with age and use. Additionally, there are a few deeper impressions to front left side of the forend. Factory markings are clear. Action is crisp and functions smoothly. Bore rates fair with defined rifling and scattered spots of light erosion on the front 1/3rd of the bore; balance is mostly bright. Listed by serial number on the accompanying BATF paperwork, indicating this firearm is no longer an NFA item despite its 15'' barrel; instead, classified as a Curio & Relic. Est.: $4,000-$6,000.
