Martially Marked Remington Model 1865 Navy Rolling Block Pistol, #NVSN, .50 RF cal.,8.5'' round barrel, blued and case hardened finish, walnut one-piece grip and forend, fixed blade front sight, and small notched groove located on the breechblock. Top of barrel is marked with small naval anchor near the breech. No barrel address or serial number on the barrel. Left side of the frame is marked in two-lines with makers information and ''April 17th 1866'' last patent date. There is a small ''P / F.C.W.'' inspector's stamp on the right side of the frame. Left side of the grip with remnants of an inspector's cartouche. Mfg'd circa 1866-70. Pistol is in overall good condition, presenting a gray patina to all the gun's parts with scattered areas of light to moderate erosion. Factory markings are legible. Grip and forend are both in good condition, showing scattered nicks and mars from handling, plus dark staining around edges. Action is crisp. Bore is good with defined rifling, and intermittent small spots of light erosion. One of only approximately 6,500 made under official contract to the U.S. Navy from 1866 to 1870. Est.: $1,500-$2,000.
