Marlin Model 1893 Lever Action Takedown Rifle, #164523, .30-30 cal., 30'' octagon barrel with 1/2 magazine, blue and color case hardened finish, checkered walnut forend and factory ''No. A'' pistol grip stock, case hardened crescent buttplate, dovetailed German silver blade front sight, and semi-buckhorn rear sight with elevator. Receiver, lever, and hammer are color case hardened. Factory markings are clear, with a crisp barrel address, marked ''SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL'' on the left side of the barrel, and ''MARLIN SAFETY'' on top of the receiver. Mfg'd 1898. Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining approx. 95% blue on the barrel and magazine tube. There are several spots of light erosion on the right side of the barrel, most are located within 8'' down from the muzzle. Magazine shows scattered spots of mild surface erosion and frosting on the left side. Receiver and lever retain approx. 80%-85% vivid color case hardened finish, with toning and wear primarily to the lever and bottom of the frame. Buttplate with a few traces of case colors and is now mostly silver with scattered spots of patina. Stock is in fine condition, showing mostly moderate indentations and scratches, checkering detail is primarily crisp. Wood was likely cleaned and reoiled; new oil now shows age and some thinning. Action functions well and locks up securely. Bore rates very good+ and has well-defined rifling. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (Antique)
