Lot 28 Sharps U.S. New Model 1863 Breech-Loading Carbine

Sharps U.S. New Model 1863 Breech-Loading Carbine, #C26161, .50-70 cal., 22'' barrel, blue & case hardened finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, and ''V''-notch rear sight. Carbine was converted to fixed cartridge circa 1868. Lockplate is marked ''R.S. LAWRENCE PAT. /APRIL 12th 1859'' and ''C. SHARPS PAT. /OCT. 15. 1852'' on the right; ''C.SHARPS PAT./APRIL 12th 1848'' on the left. Barrel is marked ''NEW MODEL 1863'' on top rear and ''SHARPS RIFLE/MANUF. CO./partial marking'' in front of the sight. Sight ladder is missing the slide retaining screw. Rifle is in very good condition. Receiver area is gray with brown patina, showing pitting on the lever. Barrel has moderate brown patina, with light to moderate frosting, and pitting mostly on the left side. Stock is very good with general light handling marks and marked (?AW) at the back. Buttplate shows pitting. Action works properly. Bore is good with scattered spots of rust. Est.: $1,500-$2,500. (Antique)
