Lot 23 Colt Model 1873 U.S. Cavalry Single Action Revolver

Colt Model 1873 U.S. Cavalry Single Action Revolver, #119066, .45 Colt cal., 7.5'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, one-piece walnut grip, blade front sight, and ''U''-notch rear sight. The revolver was made in 1887 and has all matching serial numbered parts. Receiver has the three-line patent dates with ''U.S.'' on the left side, ''D.F.C.'' (David F. Clark) and ''119066'' on the bottom. Loading gate is marked ''94'' and the trigger guard and backstrap are marked ''119066''. Cylinder is marked ''D.F.C.'' with a ''P'', and ''9066''. Barrel is marked ''COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.'' on top; ''D.F.C.'' with a ''P'' and ''9066'' on the bottom. Revolver is in fine overall condition. Receiver and hammer have approx. 45% visible case colors; blued finish is approx. 60%, showing general thinning and toning, but with most of the wear on the barrel. Factory markings are legible, although the barrel address is a little light towards the end. Cylinder is a full dull blue and appears to have been refinished. Grips are very good and marked circled ''RAC'' on the right side, with ''1887/JGB'' (Capt. J.G. Butler) on the left, and ''D.F.C.'' on the bottom. The serial number in the grip channel is blurred and illegible but appears to end with a 6. Serial number 119074 is the earliest recorded JGB inspected revolver according to A Continuing Study by J. Kopec, page 81. Our revolver is eight numbers earlier. Action locks up tight and functions smoothly but is missing the third click. Bore is bright with very good, defined rifling. Est.: $5,000-$6,500. (Antique)
