Lot 8 U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1884 Trapdoor Carbine
U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1884 Trapdoor Carbine, #NVSN, .45-70 cal., 22" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, and M1884 carbine rear sight. Three original cleaning rods are in the butt trap. Buttplate door is loose. Serial number has mostly worn from the receiver and the breech block is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884". Lockplate is marked "(Eagle)" with "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". Barrel markings were removed. Barrel band is the Model 1890 variation. Rifle is in good overall condition. Barrel has been cleaned and now has mottled gray/brownish appearance. Lockplate is mostly brown. Breech block retains approx. 90% thinning and toning blue. Stock is unmarked and very good, with scattered handling marks. Action works properly. Bore is fair with light pitting throughout. Est.: $800- $1,200. (Antique)
