Lot 4 Westley Richards & Co. Percussion Rifled Carbine
Westley Richards & Co. Percussion Rifled Carbine, .50 cal., 26.4" round barrel; walnut stock with single barrel key, raised apron on left side, with flat nails, line, and diamond engraved checkering on wrist. Low-profile blade front sight and adjustable folding leaf rear sight with wide "V"-notch, graduated to 400 yards. Trigger also has diamond engraving. The rammer is missing from under the barrel. Lockplate marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co" and "1872" inside a triangle. Left side barrel is stamped with proof and inspection marks. Condition overall is good, metal toned to a dark brown color; spots of patina to the lockplate, barrel, and barrel band. The nipple and hammer are very good. Barrel tang screw appears to be a modern replacement. Wood is very good, showing expected handling marks and impressions to the dark finish. There are a few newer handling marks to the buttstock. Hammer operates smoothly; lock holds in the half and full cock position. Bore rates as fair with surface rust and visible rifling. Est.: $700-$1,000. (Antique)
