Lot 4472 RARE PRE REVOLUTIONARY WAR WATERCOLOR DEPICTING
THE BLOCKADE OF BOSTON BY REMICK.This exceptionally rare watercolor represents the right half of the original work that was done in 1768 by Christian Remick. The entire work depicts British warships lying at anchor off Long Wharf, while troops disembark to enforce King George's newest act. The portion of the watercolor offered here measures approx 7 1/2" x 6". Several ships flying British flags are depicted in the lower half of the work. The upper left has a putti holding a banner that reads "BLOCKADE OF BOSTON". There is a spray of arms in the upper right corner with an unfurled document that reads "Mr____ Vernon This Perspective View of Boston harbor Islands Ships of War & with the Landings of Troops of ______ from London ___ by ___ most obt Servt C. Remick". This is an extremely depiction of actions that lead directly to the American War of Independence. CONDITION: despite the great age of this watercolor, colors remain reasonably vibrant and the depiction of ships as well as other aspects remain crisp and easily discernible.
