Lot 4451 16th CENTURY ENGLISH BREASTPLATE.

This breastplate dates from the mid 16th Century and was likely worn by a pikeman. It measures approx 14 1/2" tall with a width of about 14". The breastplate shows a raised edge around the neck and arms. It has a raised medial ridge and a slight 1 1/2" flare at the bottom. The plate appears to be one piece and has two holes at each shoulder, one hole and a rivet on each side of the chest and several holes with two rivets around the skirt. CONDITION: there appears to be some period repairs at the lower front of the skirt. The entire piece has a darkened patina with an oxidized finish on all interior surfaces.
