Lot 4450 MID 19th CENTURY OTTOMAN HELMET OF THE EGYPTIAN
KHEDIV'S BODYGUARD.This scarce helmet was worn during the mid to late 19th Century by the Egyptian Khediv's bodyguard. It has a steel body with a brass crescent moon finial at the top. The most prominent feature is the arrow shaped adjustable nose guard. Base of the helmet has a large brass band with large circular bosses on the side supporting a chain chinstrap. There is a chainmail neck guard and neck flap to the rear of the helmet. The heavy leather sweatband/liner is detached but present. CONDITION: the iron has a dark brown patina. All brass parts have a mellow mustard patina. There are a few minor dents to the body with no major damage noted. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24703/BF). NON-GUN. $400-800.
