Lot 4445 BRITISH 3rd DRAGOON GUARDS OFFICER'S DRESS HELMET
MADE INTO AN ICE BUCKET.This rare British 3rd Dragoon Guards, also known as "The Prince of Wales Own", officer's dress helmet is of the 1871 style and features an enameled central helmet plate showing the Prince of Wales plumes within a garter that reads "HONI SOIT QUI MALY PENSE" mounted on a faceted star backing plate. Large gilded laurel leaf spray to the lower center and backstrap. Large rosette side bosses with gold linked chin chain. Spike base with a large fluted socket that holds the black and red officer's horsehair plume with a gilded rosette on the top. This helmet has been remanufactured by a skilled craftsman into a presentation ice bucket. The interior of the bucket has a gold wash and sits on a gilded brass pedestal with a wooden base. The wooden base has a silver presentation plaque that reads "PRESENTED TO CAPT. GERALD A. BUGOYNE BY THE OFFICER'S OF THE 3RD DRAGOON GUARDS ON LEAVING THE REGIMENT 15TH DECEMBER 1897".
