Lot 4416 EARLY 18TH CENTURY SPANISH BILBO HILT RAPIER.
An example of a early 18th century Spanish bilbo hilt rapier measuring 46 1/2" overall with a marked 39 1/4" rapier blade featuring a central 7 1/2" fuller with partially legible stamps that include "SOLINGEN". Opposing disk guard with a vine decoration on the front. Disks are connected by looped iron and there is a 12" crossguard. Small globular pommel with wire wrapped grip that includes Turk's head knots at the top and bottom. CONDITION: blade shows moderate to heavy cleaned pitting and the tip is missing. Hilt shows light to moderate pitting with breaks on 3 of the 4 top joints. Grip is solid but possibly an early replacement. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24695/BF).
