Lot 4414 MID-1800s GERMAN HUNTING CUTLASS AND DINING KNIFE.

A truly superb German hunting cutlass from the 1830s to the 1860s measuring 27" overall with a blue and gilt 20 1/2" blade. The blade has gold highlighted military and foliate etching on a blued field and is marked " (king's head) (knight's head) W. K & C ". The Greek revival style hilt has an oak leaf embellished ferrule below a garland wrapped Greek column crossguard. Off white organic grip with 3 oval bosses on each side. An early sword knot is attached to the lanyard ring at the top of the pommel. Gilded brass mounted brown leather scabbard with small matching dining knife at the top of the scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows light wear with much of the gilding and bluing remaining. The gilded finish on the hilt and scabbard mounts is nearly complete. Grips are undamaged.
