Lot 4413 HIGH GRADE BRITISH M1831 GENERAL OFFICER'S SWORD
FOR THE KING'S HUSSARS. This beautiful ornate mameluke sword measures 37 1/2" overall with a 31 3/4" flat blade with a 10 1/4" false edge. The blade is etched with a multi-rayed crown over "KING'S HUSSARS". The blade is etched near the ricasso "HAMBURGER ROGERS & CO. 30 King St. Cov. Garden London". Gilted brass hilt with ornate M1831 guard with exceptional flame quillons. The backstrap and frontstrap are decorated profusely with oak leaves and acorns. The ivory crosshatched and carved grip with five petal flower screw covers. The eye at the top of the grip is engraved to look like a wreath and is fitted with a General's grade sword knot. Ornately engraved gilded brass scabbard with shark skin panels on both sides. The cross shaped suspension loops have floral and foliate embellishments. Engraved oak leaves cover the metal edges of the scabbard throughout its full length. CONDITION: blade has a light gray, slightly mottled patina with clear etching. The hilt shows light wear with no significant faults and 90%+ gilded finish remaining. Knot shows light wear. The scabbard retains more than 70% of its original finish and the shark skin is undamaged. (02-25842/BF). NON-GUN. $2,000-3,000.
