A fine example of a late 18th century Broadsword measuring 37 7/8" overall with a plain 31 3/8' double edged blade featuring a 8 1/4" central fuller. The massive engraved hilt has a pierced 4 thistle design with broad flat lines. Engraved designs feature a crowned circular garter with what may be a central family crest. Interesting truncated conical pommel that appears original with an analogous patina. Early, heavily patinated, wooden grip may be oak. CONDITION: iron has a dark patina as expected with some light pitting throughout. Grip is stable and solid. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24712/BF). NON-GUN. $1,800-2,600.
