Lot 4406 VERY FINE BRITISH M1831 GENERAL OFFICER'S SWORD.
This classic British General Officer's sword measures 36 1/2" overall with a flat 31 1/2" blade featuring a 10 3/4" false edge. Etching includes a royal crown over thistles with various foliate motifs and a crossed scimitar and scabbard on each side. Etching near the ricasso reads "JONES & CO 6 REGENTS. LONDON". Heavily gilded brass hilt with a crossguard bearing a central wreath with crossed sword and scabbard. Bulbous quillons on each end terminate the foliate engraving. Mameluke style hilt with a bullion General's knot attached to the top. Handle comprised of two antique elephant ivory slabs attached with gilded decorated brass pins. Gilded brass scabbard with cross shaped suspension loops. CONDITION: blade shows substantial original factory polish. Hilt shows light wear. Knot is frayed where it attaches to the hilt.
