Lot 4400 1790-1810 BRITISH MARINE CORPS SABER WITH ANCHOR
POMMEL.This rare sword is ascribed by most scholars to the British Marines of about 1790 to 1810 although American use was possible during the interwar years. The sword measures 34 1/2" overall with a wide 29" single fullered blade that is very suitable for shipboard combat or land campaigns. Brass hilt with a four slot style guard and an interesting somewhat urn shaped pommel with a large anchor on one side. Well worn carved wooden grip of nearly diamond form. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray smooth lightly pitted patina. Brass hilt has a superb rich patina. Grip is undamaged. (02-26067/BF). $1,200-1,800.
