Lot 4397 EARLY BRITISH BACKSWORD.

This classic English backsword measures 41 1/2" overall with a 34 1/4" plain blade with a rudimentary fuller near the spine. Semi basket iron guard with a drop pendulous quillon. The crossguard has two branches and there are three curved branches on one side of the backstrap with a single on the other. Large globular pommel. Wire wrapped shark skin grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a smooth dark patina as does the guards and pommel. Grip shows wear, but is undamaged. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24780/BF). NON-GUN. $1,400-2,000.
