PISTOLS. William Buchele, 1895-1977, was a renowned builder of contemporary flintlock & percussion rifles & pistols in the 1960's-1970's. He is known as a co-author of the book "Recreating the American Long Rifle" with George Shumway and Peter Alexander. Both: Cal. 45. NSN. Bbls. 10" of rapid taper octagon measuring 9/16" across flats at the muzzles. Dovetail mounted blade front sights with fixed square notch rear sights. Top flats of bbls. have a wedge of scroll engraving forward of builder's name "W. Buchele". Engraved trade style flint locks. Plain triggers with pierced webs. Pin fastened rnd. butt stocks of curly maple. Ornate engraved German silver pin escutcheons with German silver heart wrist plates. Eagle ornamented brass butt straps with fancy brass trigger guards, pierced sideplates, and ornate thimbles. Brass button capped hardwood ramrods are additionally held by single faceted pipes. Plain brass nose caps. Lock and sideplate areas are highlighted by incise carving. Ramrod channels have moulded borders. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 17 1/8" x 11 1/2" x 3 7/8" converted silverware box with added brown felt fitted interior. Case holds natural white and brass handled patch knife, decorative mouse fashioned from steel cable, brass patch jag, 2 spare flints, and 13 rnd. balls. CONDITION: browned bbl. finish of both pistols show spotted finish loss due to long in the box storage. Lockplates have lightly faded brown finish. Stocks show scattered light scratches and marks.
