Lot 4366 HOMER DANGLER CONTEMPORARY FLINTLOCK PISTOL.
Cal. 40. NSN. Bbl. 7 5/8" octagon measuring 3/4" across the flats. Top flat is engraved "H + L + D". Guns built by Homer that were not finished had the "H+L+D" markings. His finished guns were marked "H+L+Dangler". Dovetail mounted brass blade front sight with fixed U-notch rear sight. Unmarked trade lock. Lock and bbl. have a browned finish. Pin fastened rnd. butt stock of curly maple. Silver finished fittings include a grotesque mask butt cap, woman's portrait on bottom of forearm, with curled ornaments fore and aft of the brass sideplate as well as bottom of stock in forearm areas had some silver wire inlay. Stock has an area of relief carving behind the tang with drop points extending from the lock and sideplate areas. Brass fittings consist of the trigger guard, nose cap, thimble, and single pipe. Brass tipped hardwood ramrod. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: non-related letter and photos from Dangler regarding one of his rifles. CONDITION: bbl. retains most browned finish. Stock shows light wear and handling marks with areas of missing wire inlay along bottom and forearm sides. Sound lock. Bore has a lightly frosted appearance retaining strong rifling. (01-27957/DS).
