Lot 4358 ASSEMBLED FLINTLOCK HALF STOCK RIFLE

Cal. 38. NSN. Oct. 43 7/8" bbl. has been converted from percussion by removed bolster & enlarged touch hole. Blade front sight & notch rear sight. Adolphus Meier & Co. (St. Louis, MO 1838-1868) lock has been converted to flint. Dbl. set triggers; rear is set. Half stock wedge fastened maple stock having left side cheekrest. Brass furniture includes crescent buttplate, toeplate, 8 pointed star, finger rest triggerguard, wrist plate, wedge escutcheons & engraved rectangular patchbox; "S HALL" stamped on patchbox lid. Hardwood ramrod held by underrib & 2 plain pipes. CONDITION: barrel has brown, corroded appearance with light pitting throughout & scattered gouges. Lock has dark patina appearance with pitting. Wood shows heavy varnish finish over large cracks & scattered gouges w/ repaired break behind lock at top of wrist. Lock appears frozen at full cock. Dark bore.
