Lot 4353 VERY GOOD O/U PERCUSSION RIFLE/SHOTGUN COMBO,

AMERICAN MADE BUT NOT MAKER MARKED. Cal. 14 Ga./36 Cal. S# NSN. The 28" unmarked barrel set is fitted with semi-buckhorn elevation adjustable rear and German silver front sights. Three pipes on each side hold hickory ramrods with brass tips and worm tails for both rifle and shotgun. Breech is attractively filed and is engraved with some scrolls. Back spring percussion locks have flat faced hammers (left with long nose to reach bottom shotgun barrel) and are line border engraved and have web pattern at rears and some scrolls on hammers. Locks are not maker marked. A lollipop windage adjustable rear sight is mounted in top tang. Front trigger for rifle barrel is set. Scrolled trigger guard with finger spur is also unmarked. Straight grip buttstock made of stump figured American walnut measures 13-1/2" over heavy case hardened crescent steel buttplate. Widely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip and right side of butt is fitted with nicely engraved patchbox with steel cover and German silver surround. CONDITION: very fine. Barrels retaining over 85% original blue. Most original case hardening color remains on locks. Buttplate, hammers and trigger guard have colors faded to grayish brown. Stock retains nearly all of its original finish with some marks. Bores are bright and shiny. There is a stress crack on right side running from base of rear sight to midway along lockplate which does not flex. Mechanically crisp. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis.
