Lot 4346 UNUSUAL "TAP ACTION" SIDEHAMMER SINGLE SHOT
PISTOL. Cal. 36 Rifled. NSN. Bbl. 4". "Tap Action" sidehammer pistol produced by an unknown mfg. The action is unusual and somewhat reminiscent of the Faucet action found on some parlor rifles of the period, featuring a swiveling breechblock, that when rotated up, allows for insertion of ammunition. Pistol is virtually unmarked, save for an encircled "PF" proof on the right flat of the damascus bbl. Top and sides of the receiver and underside of trigger guard bow feature single line bordered vine type engraved scrollwork. 1-piece checkered wood stock with German silver pommel cap featuring a decorative hinged butt cap. Ornately contoured trigger guard with finger curl. Fixed blade front sight with fixed square notch rear sight. CONDITION: receiver, trigger guard, and bbl. have faded to a mottled gray patina, showing scattered spots of age related discoloration, as well as some light pitting. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of mild to moderate pitting. Proper manual mechanics. Wood stock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, exhibiting a couple of chips, with a crack on the right stemming from the receiver and a small crack on the top of the wrist stemming from the receiver tang.
