Cal. 45. S# NSN. The 8-1/4" barrel goes from octagonal at breech through 16 sides to wedding band and then to round. Foliate and floral engraving is on breech. Transitional type flint lock with round bodied arched plate is fitted with serpentine cock, inset rounded pan with sliding cover, snaphanuce type frizzen and feather spring with spear finial. Newer European walnut stock with knob grip extends to muzzle with beaded tip and is pinned to barrel. Mounts are early in style with trigger guard having multi-beaded finial. Grip cap with engraving on sides has small grotesque face at bottom. Multi-pierced sideplate is of early scroll form and is fitted with 5" steel belt hook having finial similar in style to trigger guard. A steel pierced crestplate is at top of grip. Hickory ramrod with turned steel tip and flattened worm tail mounts through slotted and beaded steel pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: fair to good. Metal parts cleaned to bright silver. Replacement stock retains most of its finish, possibly original, with some light marks. Bore is very rough. Lock barely operable and will not hold at full cock. (01-26948/MGM).
