Lot 4340 BEAUTIFULLY HANDMADE REPRODUCTION OF A SCREW

BARREL FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY JAN CEULE. Cal. 45. S# NSN. The 6" cannon turned screw off barrel has retainer attached to fore piece of stock so barrel cannot be lost or dropped while loading. Breech has octagonal section that is finely scroll engraved and has Green Man's face. Handmade lock with arched plate and rebated tail is fitted with flat bodied serpentine cock, inset faceted pan, unbridled friction frizzen and feather spring with ornate finial. Scroll engraving is on cock. "Jan Ceule" is engraved under pan with his address "Utrecht" on tail (working in Utrecht 1660-69). Dark and dense European walnut stock is steel mounted with nicely filed trigger guard with fancy finial and belt hook on left side. Ball of grip is carved in the form of a grotesque face. CONDITION: very fine; essentially "as new" with only a few minor handling marks. Frizzen has been struck a few times. Main spring is weak. Bore is lightly frosted and dark (artificially aged ?).
