Lot 4337 IRON CANNON BARREL FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS WITH

SPRING BAYONET BY BUSBY. Cal. 1.4" at muzzle. S# NSN. The 14" iron cannon barrel is stamped with Birmingham proofs in octagonal breech section and is fitted with spring triangular bayonet with 10-1/2" blade. Blade is retained by sliding thumb piece on barrel tang. Flint lock with rebated tail is fitted with reinforced cock, rounded pan, bridled roller frizzen with small roller on frizzen spring. Scroll engraving is found on cock and lock behind "BUSBY" at center (James Busby working in Birmingham 1822-38). European walnut straight grip stock is iron mounted. Point pattern flat top checkering is at grip. Walnut ramrod with steel worm tail mounts through beaded iron pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: good. Barrel and furniture show deep overall pitting with cleaning to salt and mostly pepper appearance. Lock is relatively smooth but dark. Stock retains most of its original finish with many stains and marks. Bore is pitted. Lock will not cock. Bayonet does latch and spring. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis.
