Lot 4320 ORNATE GERMANIC FLINTLOCK HORSE PISTOL.

Cal. 60. NSN. Bbl. 13 3/4". Ornate unsigned flintlock horse pistol, likely of Germanic origin. Unmarked lockplate is engraved with foliate designs, which extend to the side of the hammer. Damascus bbl. features a faceted breech, transitioning at a single band to a rnd. contour which slightly flares at the muzzle. 1-piece wood stock features various relief carved patterns, with a horn nose cap. Brass furniture consists of a foliate engraved sideplate, engraved crowned wrist escutcheon, full stirrup pommel cap with grotesque mask at center, trigger guard, and faceted ferrules. Rear ferrule terminates in an engraved leaf design. Complete with horn tipped hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: lockplate has been cleaned at one time, exhibiting a mostly bright appearance with a few spots of light surface oxidation and pitting. Damascus bbl. exhibits a gray patina, with most notable wear to structuring present at the faceted breech. Brass parts have been cleaned at one time, with some areas retaining a mellow patina. Pommel cap stirrups, trigger guard bow, and forward trigger guard tang exhibits repaired splits. Stock shows scattered superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, with a few small chips along the edges of the pommel. Horn nose cap shows some cracking on the right rear edge, with the horn tip of the ramrod exhibiting a large chip. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27517/MLW).
