Lot 4315 ORNATE 17TH CENTURY STYLE WHEELLOCK TSCHINKE.
Cal. 36. S# NSN. the 33-3/4" swamped octagon barrel fitted with wide "V" rear sight has some engraving at breech end. Breech plug tang which is engraved to match has gold wash finish. Unusual wheellock with spring loaded pan cover and external main spring has gilded plates and guards and engraved to match barrel. Newer fruitwood stock with down swept butt section extends to muzzle with bone cap and is pinned to barrel. Stock shows near full coverage of expertly inlayed and well scrimmed bone and Mother of Pearl decoration consisting of foxes, rabbits, lion, deer and dog within a background of inlaid dots and scrolls in the manner of the 17th century. A sliding patchbox with matching decoration is on right side of butt. CONDITION: fine. Barrel cleaned to silver gray. Nearly all gilding remains on lock. Wood retains nearly all of its original finish showing some artificial aging. Bore is dark with strong rifling. Lock appears to be operable and complete; not tested.
