Lot 4313 HIGH CONDITION RAISED CARVED GERMANIC FLINTLOCK

FOWLER. Cal. 52. S# NSN. The 37" twist barrel has filed in narrow raised rib and some scroll engraving toward breech end which is inlaid with silver. Flint lock with deeply chamfered arched plate is fitted with attractive serpentine cock, gull wing type pan, bridled roller frizzen with roller on nicely filed feather spring with flame finial. Lock is decorated with some floral motifs and a shaded background. Plain European walnut stock extends to muzzle with horn tip and is pinned to barrel. Wood trigger guard is reinforced with brass in Germanic style. Buttplate with fancy outline is unengraved. Long side plate with foliate finial is nicely chamfered. Stock shows considerable deep relief carving of scrolls and floral highlights behind barrel tang and either side of small right hand cheekpiece. Mouldings extend along ramrod channel. Original walnut ramrod with horn tip and steel worm tail mounts through two beaded brass pipes and matching thimble. CONDITION: although not of the highest quality this attractive fowler remains in very fine original condition with most of the original twist finish showing on barrel and a good portion of original bright polish on lock. Stock has most of its original finish with a few marks; carving remains crisp. Bore is fine; shiny with some minor pitting toward muzzle. Lock is crisp.
