Lot 4310 IRISH PERCUSSION CONVERSION PISTOL, BY FOWLER OF

DUBLIN. Cal. 62. NSN. Bbl. 8 7/8". Percussion conversion of a flintlock pistol by Fowler of Dublin, Ireland. Lockplate is engraved "FOWLER" at the center, with light floral and foliate motifs at the top and rear, which extends to the bbl. tang. Top flat of the bbl. is engraved "DUBLIN", with commonwealth proofs marked on the left side towards the breech. Rear edges of the bbl. and forward edges of the bbl. tang exhibit decorative engraved bands. 1-piece single wedge fastened checkered wood rnd. butt stock, with pointed oval silver wrist escutcheon, oval German silver wedge escutcheons, and horn nose cap. Iron long tang trigger guard terminates in a pineapple finial with a panoply of arms engraved on the trigger guard bow. Iron ramrod pipe and thimble, with horn tipped hardwood ramrod. Barrel type percussion conversion, with poorly fit replacement hammer and hammer screw. Half-moon blade front sight and V-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components have faded to a mottled gray patina, showing scattered spots and areas of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting overall. Proper manual mechanics, although the hammer does not properly reach the percussion nipple. Stock shows scattered superficial handling marks and minor impressions, but otherwise remains sound.
